Main Play:
God of War: Chains of Olympus is based in the old Greek mythology era, where the main character, Kratos must fight monsters ranging from Persian warriors to giant basilisks. The game is a mix between intense fighting and challenging puzzles for the player to solve.
The game play is very similar to its predecessors, using red orbs to power up his weapons, such as the Blades of Chaos. Throughout the game play, Kratos acquires more weapons, for example The Efreet, a powerful Persian magic, and the Gauntlet of Zeus used for crushing blows. Also acquired is the sun shield, which surprisingly enough allows you to block previously devastating blows, stun opponents using their attack against them, and reverse enemies spells back onto themselves. Similarly there is the Light of Dawn which uses your magic to throw balls of light at your enemies, and Charon’s Wrath which drains your opponents’ health.
While there are only three main bosses to fight (the Basilisk, Charon, and Persephone) there are many situations where you find yourself locked in a combat arena fighting for your life.
Bonus Play:
After (or before) beating the game you have the option of unlocking treasures, ranging from completing the 5 Challenges of Hades, to unlocking videos and God mode. Once you have completed the game in God mode, and beaten all 5 challenges, you are able to replay the game with a bonus of either incredible strength or unlimited magic. Personally, I find the unlimited magic way to fun.
My Opinion:
Overall I loved this game, it was fun, challenging and made me feel like a man bashing everything. The easy level was a bit too easy while the normal level was easy only because I beat it on easy. However once I began the game on hard it became a little tricky with a lot more deaths. I have not even attempted it on God mode yet. My two pet peeves about this game are the lack of recharges for your health and magic before you fight in an arena when locked in combat. They expect you to win on 1/3 health. However, with a bit of stubbornness and determination, it is beatable. The last thing would be one large gap that you must jump over, and must time your double jump perfectly if you wish to cross it (Expect 10-15 deaths before crossing it the first or even second time).
Summary:
Good graphics uses all of the 333 MHz in the processor after begging Sony to up it from 222 MHz.
Challenging enough to keep you interested, not to hard to bore you.
Great weapons
Good respawn points. If you die in a fight arena, you start right near it again.
Quick loading after deaths, and on initial startup.
When all is said and done I give God of War: Chains of Olympus a 9.5/10, loosing the half percent on the aforementioned reasons.
